FEBRUARY: WINTERFEST & PIONEER STUDENT ART SHOW
PEOPLE’S CHOICE ART SHOW WINNERS!
Over 250 votes were cast as people picked their favorite artworks in the annual Winterfest Pioneer Student Art Show at the Arcade Historical Society. 153 artworks by 139 artists were on display. This year the ballot required voters to write down their favorite artwork from each of the four schools. They took the assignment seriously, spending a lot of time exploring the galleries. Voting ended with the close of the show yesterday, February 12th. People’s Choice winners from each school are as follows:
Arcade Elementary: Grace Marrs, 3rd grade, “Night Owl,” oil pastel, teacher, Mrs. Swavy-Minton.
Delevan Elementary: Nylah Tubbins, 2nd grade, “Op Art,” marker & pencil, teacher, Mr. Bala.
Middle School: Carson Bockhahn, 8th grade, “Sculptural Bust,” clay and acrylic paint, teacher, Mr. Necci.
High School: Karlee Greenfield, 12th grade, “The Butterfly,” welded steel assemblage, teacher, Mr. Daggett.
Congratulations to these winners, but ALL of the artists in the show are winners to us. Thank you to the teachers, students and families for sharing their artwork and coming out to see it!

Small-Town Suffragists Cemetery Tour
At least one hundred thirty-six local women belonged to the Arcade chapter of the Political Equality Club (PEC) between 1905 and 1917. These small-town wives, mothers, and daughters worked diligently to convince the men in their lives to give them the same right to vote. You are invited to take a self-guided walk touring the graves of 62 of Arcade’s Political Equality Club members, at any time, in Arcade Rural Cemetery. This cemetery is located just after the railroad tracks going south on either Park or Prospect Street in downtown Arcade. A pdf map and guide is below. Download and print a copy of the pdf document or open it on your phone to “meet” these small-town suffragists.
